Critical Hits
A critical hit represents an exceptionally well-placed strike, dealing severe damage to the target.
- You roll all of the attack's damage dice twice and add them together.
- Add any relevant modifiers to the total.
For example, if you score a critical hit with a longsword (1d8) and have a Strength modifier of
+3, you roll 2d8 and add3to the total damage.
If the attack involves other damage dice, such as from the rogue's Sneak Attack feature, you roll those dice twice as well.
What can cause a critical hit?
- Rolling a
natural 20on anattack roll. - Hitting a paralyzed or unconscious target.
- Hitting a creature affected by the hold person spell, or other spells with this effect.
- Specific feats, traits, monster attacks or other effects.
